I hope they change their mind about CBC News channel - that will be a drag if it's available in Canada only. More than ever, people to the south need to learn about Canada. According to Jimmy Kimmel the other night, some people think we are North Korea (geography fail)

I totally agree. CBC NN needs a bigger footprint.

CBC NN should be unencrypted on satellite, make that many satellites worldwide. Other countries do so with their national news stations. It should also be free to any BDU that wants to carry it, worldwide. The CBC is government funded and should use their government funding to Canada's political advantage, not to help line the pockets of civil servants.

more importantly, compared to CNN, Fox, MSNBC and Putin's RT News (lol), it's a higher quality source of vetted info, more inline with BBC World. It's always bugged me that CNN International is available all over Europe, but no CBC. At the very least, a footprint that brings CBC to all Americans is what they need.....especially in glorious mpeg4

CBC services, especially cable-only channel CBCNN, is only partially funded by tax dollars. They need the subscription bucks.

Shaw is cutting our signal lately and asking to call them. The also leave a message on my phone. If I refresh the receiver, I get the signal back.
I guess it is for a receiver update MPEG2 to MPEG4

I only have 1 530 receiver. The other are more recent.

What will happen if I upgrade.

I still have an old LNB, will all my receivers still work.

if I had a receiver down south, would it still work with the receiver upgrade if I kept the old LNB here?

We have a 505 in our MBR and we do not need many channels or HD as long as it keeps working.

We have a 505 hooked up to a vcr for recording shows. Just got an email "Urgent: Contact us to avoid a service disruption". Mentions an offer to upgrade but the offer will likely be what the 600 sold for a few years back, $50.

Our 505 may have to get some issues to be replaced under the multi-receiver warranty. Especially since they don't want the 505 back. Shipping was $14 for the replacement last time i read somewhere.

When will the 505 stop getting any channels?

The 505 (any 5xx) will stop getting remaining HD channels in June of this year when those channels convert to MPEG4. Some SD channels (smaller market locals) are also scheduled to convert to MPEG4 in June of this year and will also disappear. For the most part the 5xx series will continue to get SD channels into 2019 when the remaining SD channels convert to HD-MPEG4.

CNBC disappears. Why?

Friday March 16, 2018 - Set up 630 pvr to record CNBC from 5:00-5:30 and 5:30-6:00pm. Channel 504.

On playback only one hour of black is shown plus in blue "no signal". Status shows signal in high 80s.

Right now channel is back (Sat am) in SD as usual

This has happened before on CNBC, just on Fridays.

Also I do not see CNBC on the upgrade to MP4.

Comments?

We recorded a non-CNBC show Friday night (March 16). There was a lengthy black screen. I wish I could remember the name of the show and channel, but I know that it was not CNBC. We have been noticing these black screens every so often. We watched a "LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT" and noticed how the picture stuttered. That was annoying.

I think Shaw Direct is doing something...

The CBC is Government funded, but CBC NN is not directly funded. There's a wiki explaining all that...Google it.

And here I thought it was too.

The CBC wants to act like a commercial TV service, cutting costs by reducing service to millions of Canadians, while running ads and collecting subscriber fees. At the same time, it wants to continue collecting hundreds of millions of taxpayers money while failing to fulfill it's traditional mandate of producing and airing only shows that reflect Canadian culture. It should decide what it wants to be, a service that reflects Canadian culture and serves all Canadians or be a commercial service that cuts costs at all levels and strives to make a profit. It's current position of accepting taxpayer money but refusing to be accountable to a large percentage of Canadian taxpayers in hypocritical.
