I don't subscribe to Investigation Discovery either, but every other channel Shaw has added in HD this year and that I subscribe to looks good and are definitely HD.

Is your output resolution on your receiver set to 480p instead of something higher?

Receiver Has Lost Satellite Signal

anyone having any problems with certain channels the last couple of days? I've figured out that I'm losing everything from a select group of F transponders since the bad weather rolled into the Great Lakes. Problem is, signal strength is lovely and good on other channels/transponders, but this few are giving me "lost satellite receiver" requesters and no video. Happened yesterday, then last night they all returned. Now today, they're all gone again. All from F2
Just me?

Any branches getting laden in snow and being pulled into the look path of your dish? Snow drift on an overhang that partially blocks your dish?

none at all, completely clear. And just like yesterday, all the same channels returned mid-afternoon. We’re out of schedule for sun spot activity, so it would appear certain transponders are weaker than others. That’s the only reasonable explanation. But why they’re weaker at a certain time of day is the mystery. Every channel, HD & SD, from four F2 transponders were effected.

I figured it out: it’s the Super Blood Wolf Moon....

But factually, the trouble transponders are producing signal strengths as much as 16 points lower than other, decent transponders... 96 vs. 80!

Do you know the transponders involved. Are they MPEG4 versus MPEG2. Wondering if they are MPEG4 that your dish is slightly out of alignment/skew. I believe MPEG4 needs a much better alignment. Also from other threads you are still using an older LNB perhaps it is beginning to weaken on certain frequencies and you will need to do the swap as early as you can come April.

probably a combination of both. I haven’t readjusted the dish in years, and yes, the old quad is still in play. didn’t realize certain frequencies would change over time...still, why would signals from some transponders be weaker?

From reading Shaw's charts, I believe that pretty much everything on F2 T20, 25, 27 & 31 are giving very low signal strength back - low eighties and down...

LONSat - do you have any advice on which is the best channel to use for tuning, or re-aiming a Shaw Direct dish?

In the past once I have a reasonable alignment for F1R/F2 and to get the best signal for F2 I used TMN1 and for G1 I believe I used BBC Earth. F1 to date has been mainly Std Def so I didn't care as much a crude alignment would work. If I tweaked for those channels the rest seemed fine.

ok, thanks. TMN1, or Crave1, is on one of the transponders which goes low-signal. Funny thing is, the time the trouble begins gets later each morning, which is pretty much how sun spot interference works. What would you think the lowest signal level is to maintain a picture, 80?

This might be a better thread to discuss Channel lineup revisions.

It was suggested to me that an East to West revised lineup might be better. Here is my take on what it should look like.

Here is an updated West to East revised lineup based on a couple corrections (on noted for the French Channels)

Ha I like East to West b'cuz shows start in the East and then later their on in the West! I think Bell did it that way but when we had to switch to Shaw they go West to East in their numbers. Well I would just be happy for a list that made sense and wasn't all over the place like now, whatever direction it goes in.

Typically in a dual feed situation we do not see the result as end users until the end of the process. The Stingray channels and the rest probably won't be seen in HD on our boxes until May 14th. Happy to be wrong but in the past that is how the dual feeds have worked. The dual feeds allow for testing and configuration of Head End equipment. More HD coming all year long don't count on them until the end date of each dual phase step.
