Switching from 209 receiver to 505 receiver

Hello. New to the forum here. My dilemma is, my mom has two 209 recievers, and we are looking to switch to the 505 receiver. We unplug the 209, and plug in the 505. We can only get a couple HD channels and absolutely no other channels. When we turn to another channel (for instance, 167 Disney Jr) it's black screen and the light on the receiver is red (not green). Any insight would be greatly appreciated because it's not making any sense to me. If any other information is required, please let me know and I'll provide as necessary

Have you phoned Shaw Direct to have this 505 activated? They need to send down the right "v-code" or channel mapping for this unit.

No I haven't. I should've mentioned that the 505 is one of my receivers that currently work at my house. I figured I would give it to my mom so she could have HD since she just bought a HD TV. Would it make sense that perhaps her satellite dish lnb is an older version then the one I have?

Yes, what kind of LNB does she have? Like 2 beer cans? If the LNBs are different then you will have to phone in and get the correct "v-code".

Yup your right - they are different. Her's are round and mine are oval. Thanks! Aside from Shaw, would you happen to know where I could get the new lnb for a reasonable price - aside from having to get new v codes downloaded?

IMO, get her a DSR600, and get them to change the LNBF to the XKu, so she can enjoy the new channels. I "miss" them on the 505 in my bedroom.

I think the simplest thing to do at this point is just call and get the v-code updated on the 505. If you were to change out the LNB then you would still have to phone in and get the v-code changed on the other 209 she still has.
If you are willing you could, as classicsat mentioned, change out her 209s for 600s. SD would probably give her some kind of a discount and a brand new style xKu LNB for free with a $50 install charge.

Also, you mentioned that hers was round and yours was oval. Did you mean the the satellite dishes themselves? If that's the case you will have yet another problem on your hands. lol
