Cut the Cord Today

I terminated my SD service today. Not because I am angry with SD; it's worse. They are simply irrelevant to me nowadays. When I considered the OTA, FTA, online Internet streaming I have access to including 24/7 world news channels in English, PBS, movies all for no charge except Netflix for very low monthly charge, SD no longer offers a service I need.

They kindly offered numerous additional channels all with a big discount but I wasn't interested. My Digital Lite service rose in about 2 years from $29 to $39. Up 35% for no additional service. I do think for a low-end service, that was a big increase.

Time to enjoy the summer anyway. Maybe we should all watch less TV?

P.S.: SD is still going to hold me hostage for 30 days more. I must pay for another entire month even though I know they could push some buttons and terminate me immediately. What's that all about?

Sony TV, Clearstream [email protected]' high, CM-7777 30 dB preamp in 3-channel universe; 1.2m and 1m Ku dishes: 87/91/99/103W.

I noticed my bill always increases every month. It may only be a few cents but it never goes down.

With an ID like yours, you can't leave SD, can you?

If the CFL was still available on the CBC, I think I could get by with FTA and OTA. Don't even get me started on the Grey Cup only being available on cable.

Doing some cost analysis now, but I think I'm done.

Stecle, I totally agree with you. I've been wanting to drop cable for over a year now after trying OTA but I need my CFL - sigh. Remember when TSN.ca used to stream games?

Today Kevin O'Leary (Dragon's Den, the Lang and O'Leary Exchange) dismissed the CRTC rulings on broadcast/cable TV as being irrelevant. They are behind the trend of people tuning in to other forms of entertainment. Even he was thinking of cutting the cord. Says something when a multi-millionaire is dissatisfied with the cost and service of his cable company.

Kevin O'Leary is correct on this point. He and I are in agreement on the CRTC. I'm told by a well-known broadcaster who I respect that the CRTC does good work in some areas. I'll take his word. However, he is vehemently against their role in determining what Canadians are "permitted" to view and the whole Canadian content idea as it exists in 2013. The best reason why the CRTC should be disbanded is because they are irrelevant and their attempt to control what Canadians can watch doesn't work anyway. Use that money in areas where it can do something of value.

Are these sites that do CFL webcasts of any value?

Since TSN has CFL tied up contractually until 2018, there is little hope for you unless you go to a pub with a big screen TV with friends and make it a social outing.

CRTC............ It sort of reminds me of another needless group. The Senate with a different name. They main reason they exist is to collect a BIG paycheck and "FRINGE" benefits.

I checked usual sources including Wild Feeds on this forum. None found in last two years.

I terminated my SD service in December. I was made to wait one month as well. Also, they still owe me $15.83. We have basic cable and an antenna, which we use to avoid simsubbing. I got fed up with SD's HD offerings, plus I volunteer at the community cable station. I also got fed up waiting for the satellite which I realize was launched in April.

I think every one should drop all Canadian providers they all show the same garbage day after day and then it goes into reruns on all different channels so you can watch it all over again in case you had a washroom break, don't even want to start on the CRTC the most useless outfit in Canada . I think it wont be long before I join you,
