Question New receiver questions...any deals? Upgrades?

I need to upgrade my receivers. I have :
1-401 in the basement
2- 505's on my second floor

I have an eliptical dish with 4 line LNB- 3 are being used. The lines run into my basement. It has been at least 6-7 years since it was installed so I am not sure if the LNB/dish need to be upgraded as well. I am adding another TV on the ground floor so I want to buy

2-630's and 1-600 (plus I will leave 1 505)- 4 total receivers

or 1-630, 1-605 and 1-600 (plus leave 1-505) - 4 total receivers

I PVR will be on the second floor and the other one will be in the basement.

I guess I will need a couple more lines run for the PVR's and the extra receiver, correct ? Four tv's in total ( I may add a 5th TV in the summer). Would this involve a multiswitch and where would it be placed? How would they run an additional line to the second floor for and the main floor from the basement if that is where the multiswitch is installed? I also want to know if Shaw will include a multiswitch if I order from them and if there are any other deals/incentives? If not, I guess I can just buy the receivers anywhere and have Shaw install the lines. Any insight or advice is welcome.

THX.

Call Shaw and ask for Customer Retentions, tell them you are thinking of switching, but if the deal is right for all the upgrades you have mentioned then you will stay.

If you have been a long and loyal customer I am sure they will accommodate you.

You will need 2 lines for each pvr, and additional lines for each extra receiver. To ensure possible channel upgrades, make sure that each receiver is a 6xx series model- especially if connected to an hd (hdmi) tv.

The multiwsitch will be required with that many lines. They will install it professionally and to your satisfaction (dependent on installer and area though).

Good luck with the call!

Shaw Direct DVR830 / DVR 605/ 605, Sony Xbr65" 950E", Sony XBR4 850d, Oppo 980H, Yamaha 7.1 Surround, PS4! WDLive

Thanks Ouser. I will try again to speak with them. The first attempt was not encouraging the CS i talked to said they didn't offer any incentives.

When you call, tell the CSR that you are being offered a deal to switch to another provider which will provide new HD PVR's as part of the incentive. That will usually put you up to the next level CSR that will be able to offer you a deal on new receivers, etc.. Good Luck.

The multi-switch is an "Eagle Aspen DTV4x8, the same one Direct TV uses in the states. It's available directly from Shaw or from Amazon, check the pricing. It's easy to install. You run 4 cables from your dish to the multi-switch which can be inside your house. You can then run up to 8 feeds from the multi-switch to your receivers. You have to run all 4 cables to the switch from the dish for it to work. As for receiver deals, check Kijiji, often lots of good deals there.

Yup, lots of 630s, 605s and 600s for sale cheap. Barely used. People are dropping SD like a hot potato so lots of almost new equipment is available.

And the 4x8 can even be had on Ebay for reasonable price. Definitely go KIJIJI or whatever. Good deals and some very honest sellers on the Internet. Just keep your eyes open and do your checking with SD before handing over cash.
I believe SD will include a multiswitch but that's when paying full retail for gear. You can get 630's for $150 sometimes. I did recently.

I got 2 630s, 2 600s and multiswitch for $250 last year in exchange for my 2 505s and 2 209s. SD also sent their people to run the new lines for free as well. I've been a sub on OVP for about 3-4 yrs, bills always paid on time and i've subbed to NHL CI all of those years. I was kind and nice when i spoke to 3 levels of CSRs. Told them the truth that i was thinking of switching providers, which I was. Not at that point, but I would have a few months down the line.

Thanks everyone. I talked to SD today. They are going to give me 2 -630 PVR's, 1-605 and a 600 receiver, install 3 more lines and a multiswitch for $350. I thought that was fairly good and after a 45 min wait I didn't feel like dragging out negotiations.

I assume you also had to trade in the old receivers? Price sounds good to me as well. Great job!

last month they offered me 3 600's and 1 605 for $200 shipping included. I am now a bell costumer. even with my Atlantic Canada package with hd added Bell was the much better choice plus I actually have hd channels to watch now.

Could someone tell me if SD is giving an upgrade from the 530 to the 630.
Is there a cost? How much? Do you have to return the 530.
Thanks

I paid $99 total to exchange two 530's for two 630's - free shipping.
That was when the 630's were first introduced though, no idea what they've been doing lately.
