Everything you say is correct! We do already have two relatively new HD flat screen TVs in other parts of the house, but in our home office, we do not. If we decide we really want a TV in this area, then we will get a new one. But for now, I am just having a little fun extending the life of something that would otherwise end up being recycled. At least we have the sat feed to this area now and the receiver should be fine for a while, because HD is not important to us and all the main channels are still live.
Regarding distorted audio, I do have an old tuner/amp gathering dust. The tuning mechanism gave up the ghost, so we replaced with new Sony tuner/amp. The old amp still works with input from a turntable and tape deck both of which are also gathering dust! But the speakers are still in use with the new system. So one way or another I need new speakers if I want to get better sound from old Goldstar.
I do have a set of amplified computer speakers. May try them, on a test basis. The TV doesn't have audio out, so speakers would have to be connected to output of DSR205.
In reality, I should eventually just get a better new TV (or used one free from a relative or friend!)
BTW - The Goldstar name was apparently used from 1958 to 1995 when through a merger (with Lucky!) they became LG. Our old set is dated 1995 - I guess it was almost an LG! Zenith also became part of LG. We have a Zenith DVD player too! Their "Life is Good" slogan is great!
