In the past it did not renew by itself (in case you wanted to cancel for whatever reason) TSN analist said good way for NHL/NHLPA to give a little back to the fan would be Center-Ice for free...don't hold your breath on that happening
I don't want it unless it is free, not spending a penny on them this year, but will watch whatever is playing on my current package. Actually looking forward to a short season, games will matter right off the bat, but that's a discussion for another thread
Yes let's hope it's free or offered at a discounted rate. But, being the greedy (&**&*& that they all are (NHL and PA) I can also easily see them increasing the price either this year or next. I haven't heard one player apologize to the fans yet. My boycott begins Jan. 19th. Hope you all do the same.
You don't make up for ~$1.5B is lost revenue by giving stuff away for free. I'd be shocked if there was anything other than a free preview week Jan 19-25 then $50/mth for 3 months. And that's a tough ask on Shaw Direct given that all games aren't available in HD.
had it last year and all games were in HD, they had 10 HD channels for CI and 14 Standard
Of those 10 CI HD channels... 4 are just the regional Sportsnets rebroadcast and 2, maybe 3, were rebroadcasts of the Canadian teams regional channels. On a good night, you got 4 other games in HD. Basically only the 7 Canadian teams, Detroit, Boston and NYR were ever always in HD plus the west coast games. Every game definitely was not available in HD, nor will they be this year, especially given the condensed schedule (i.e. most every team will be playing at the same time most every night).
And I still imagine it'll be one week free preview then $50/mth for three months. The nice thing is that by the end of the free preview you should be able to tell if your team is going to be in the mix and if it's worth the price to pick up the rest of the season. Although, I'm sure the NHL knows that too and might say "screw you" on the free preview.
The old price was $30/month. If the NHL raise the price this year to $50/month, they'll lose even more fans than they already have.
And don't forget everyone, the boycott starts on the 19th, not the regular season: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Just-D...699361?fref=ts It's nice to see that many news providers have been picking up this story and the FB group has grown about 2000 people since the tentative deal was signed.
