Unfortunately this is probably true. No one likes sim-subbing.

"tentative"... I don't feel good about this. I wonder if SD would send them a case of TP they would bump up the launch date? lol

Latest news courtesy of SatBeams: Launch of Anik G1 is March 30, 2013.

Shaw needs to do something now, or the customers they've been placating with the news of new HD and other channel launches coming when G1 goes live are going to jump ship. MPEG4 on all current non-network channels would help, but that would mean forcing upgrades to a LOT of customers, and the upgrades would have to be free. No way Shaw is going to want to do THAT.

Bunch of posts totally off topic for this thread deleted. Since the posts were on various topics, it wasn't even possible to move them elsewhere.

Really?

A few things come to mind,

-Can we stop calling G1 Shaw Direct's satellite, and therefore stop blaming them for any delay and expecting them to have any ability to do anything about it. This satellite is owned and will be operated by Telesat. They contracted its build, and launch. Shaw has rented capacity on it, but will be only one of many customers utilizing it. They are all affected by the delay, and probably none of them can do anything about it.

-Telesat chose ILS as its launch provider. They use the most commercially successful heavy lift launch platform ever. They know what they are doing, and I'm sure they don't need TP, but do deserve respect from any space enthusiast. They identified an issue and are fixing it. These things take time as they don't want another failed launch. There is too much money and effort at stake. Shaw can't do a thing to hurry that process up.

-Oh and SatBeams probably has no insider info. Why they all of a sudden list March 2013 as the launch date is anyone's guess, but I'd wait for more official word before grabbing your pitchforks.

Lets all hope for a speedy return to flight for Proton so Shaw Direct can then set about adding a bunch of great channels for us.

I agree. Customers aren't going to want to wait (myself included) for at least 6 months. SD will have to add some of the channels (if they can). Right now the local cable provider has more HD.

Russian update:

Intelesat 23 was successfully launched on Oct 14.

Next in line is Satemex 8 scheduled for Dec 28 launch.

Next is Echostar 16. Loral has delivered it to the launch site. ILS has changed the launch window to Jan 1 to March 30, 2013.

G1 will be the next launch.

The Echostar 16 launch has been moved up.

Here's the ILS Mission Control link
http://www.ilslaunch.com/mission-con...n-echostar-xvi

Loral is scheduled to deliver Satmex 8 next, then G1.

When G1 arrives, ILS will put up a timeline for it.
