Has Shaw Direct increased the number of HD channels they are going to add? It seems they have moved up from over 100 HD channels to over 200 HD channels

100 makes sense, but I don't see how they could fit 200 HD channels into 16 Ku transponders. They might get 130-150 out of it tops if one of the transponders is dedicated to the CRTC mandated locals in MPEG4.

If they're including new SD channels in that count it is entirely possible to add over 200 new channels with at least 100 of them being HD.

I don't think it's saying they are adding 200 HD channels, it's saying that they will have 200 HD channels in total.

Hope they have a list of all new channels coming in HD soon!! Most of them will probably be standard definition we have now converting to HD plus a few new ones.

There may only be around 100 HD channels available at any one time but the number is inflated by part time, transient and low bandwidth channels. Seasonal sports packages, PPV and things like the fireplace channel are examples. Such channels usually occupy the same small number of transponders and are only active when needed. All the BDUs do this to inflate their channel numbers.

Good news for SHAW. Concentrating on their core business and making improvements.

Good news for viewers / customers. We need good alternatives in Canada for healthy competition.

Congratulations. Good job. Keep going in that direction.

I doubt the oligopoly or their pricing policies will be affected by one new satellite. Broadcast is dead in five years anyway.

Winegard HD 7084P pointed at Paris and a CM7777

I guess this is getting a bit of topic, but related to the last comment. I believe YouTube launched 25 subscription services today. I'm not sure the CRTC is up to speed on the trend, which might be a good thing ;-)

Telus 4K PVR & 2 wireless boxes; switched from Shaw for more HD and 4K channels, 3 AppleTVs

However, if you upgrade a receiver you can get the new LNB installed for no extra cost. You will likely need to go through Customer Relations for this as opposed to a regular CSR. In my case, I upgraded about 2 months ago with the rationale of moving to the new satellite (documented in my account), but I really just wanted another PVR. So I called back recently to ask about the new LNB. They wanted $50 regardless of previous upgrade. Then I remembered I should have asked for Customer Relations. Called back again and a new LNB is one the way, no charge.
First time I called they wanted 50 bucks for an new 600,plus anther 50 bucks for the LNB,
When I said I would think about switching TO Telus optic and get the free HD PVR and two HD receivers ,plus get 25 meg Internet and a 40 LED flat screen(there current offer)
For the same price I'm paying Shaw now.
He just well that's what our offer is take it or leave it.
I phoned back about 5 mins later and got a much better Rep.
He said the 600 receiver and XLNB would only cost 50 bucks installed.
I work in the shipping business and were putting through hundreds of the Telus LED TVs for there new customer TV offer.
Shaw Direct needs to get there act together ,there losing tons of customers .
I still might switch ,if Shaw does to give a better deal to its loyal customers with the new channels.

If you did cancel, you would have been put through to a retention CSR that would make a better offer. That may have happened with the second call or your account may have been flagged as a potential lost customer. I agree that the matter could have been handled better on the first call.

Today I requested the new LNB and the CSR said it would be $50 including the install. I asked her if she could wave the fee and she said ok. No issues or haggles. Having it installed Monday. The will bill me and then credit the money back.

i was going to try what QCK did, however the wait times are astronomical, i.e out of the solar system, tween 1:45 and 2:37 hours:minutes.

So, just so I understand...If I'm getting picture and sound on 987 and 988, I'm good to go with the new bird?

I have two 600s and a 605, those channels are showing Shaw ads with music playing in the background. Nothing on either channel about the new satellite.
