LTSS Program Expiration

Hello,
I received notice recently that my receiver will be obsoleted this month, so they sent me a replacement.
With the notice was a confirmation that LTSS will end on August 31, 2019.
They did offer a $10/month LTSS Plus package of 60 channels.

Any other LTSS clients receive this? Anyone know what channels are offered?

Travis

It's probably very similar to the Limited TV package listed here that has close to 60 channels. The lineup may vary slightly with location.

I got the new receiver (& a couple more channels with it) but I didn't bite on the LTSS Plus. I figure I'll gamble that they'll offer something even better closer to the end.

That said, since we got a Chromecast we watch less & less broadcast TV and more & more Netflix, YouTube and stuff from other websites. And as a bonus, the shows on TV station sites that have adds have a lot more civilized level of advertising.

Plus our "local" media consists of 2 stations that we live about halfway between; The existing LTSS only has one of them but the other hasn't announced any plans to stop OTA that I can find so we watch them on antenna. Not that either of them seems to know we exist anyway...

All of which adds up to: If I gamble wrong and the $10 deal is the best they will ever offer and we miss out on it we're not exactly going to cry over it.

LTSS Program?
Can someone give me the info On this this is all new to me and I live in the boonies 115 kilometers from Ottawa and 100 kilometers from Montreal if it where not for my top of the line installation I would not get any OTA channels.
does that mean that I can have a free box and get free local station with a dish and box?
sounds interesting do you get local USA station with this? I would not mind paying 10$ and getting 60 station with USA station.

I so miss ABC 22

@SCBob , The $10 deal is probably the best you will get. Shaw has no obligation to extend LTSS beyond 2019. Everyone else has to pay $25/mo plus the cost of the receiver for a basic package that is equivalent to LTSS Plus.

@FrankTurbo , LTSS is explained at the start of this thread. It's no longer availableto new customers and is ending in 2019.

Don't forget that its only $10/month for the first couple of years, then it goes up.

Like I said, its a gamble. Besides if they don't offer something better closer to the end we can have TV added to our existing phone & internet package for not a lot more.

There's still hope, gang. If you would like Shaw Direct’s LTSS to continue beyond August you have until May 13, 2019 to tell the CRTC. To comment on Shaw Direct’s LTSS, click on and comment at the following link under Shaw Direct’s original name “Star Choice Television Network Incorporated”. Note that the LTSS is part of the Star Choice DTH (now called Shaw Direct) renewal with the CRTC and not the Shaw Satellite Services Inc. item: https://services.crtc.gc.ca/pub/inst...PST=a#2019-107 .

More on LTSS in the article below:

https://ca.yahoo.com/finance/news/sm...145130781.html

Quote:
Shaw Communications has asked the CRTC for permission to cut off free television to tens of thousands of Canadians in small cities and rural areas by ending a program to replace signals lost when broadcasters stopped transmitting via analog eight years ago.

In filing for that licence renewal, Shaw indicated it provided equipment and satellite service to more than 31,000 households, and while it refused to confirm for the CBC how many Canadians are currently receiving signals, it said it voluntarily kept the program going for two years longer than the CRTC originally requested.
