I will make this (at least try) as simple to understand as possible....
I have an older house (built early 1950s), plaster walls, hardwood floors. My computer is in what would be my living room (at front of house), and thus has my router here. Also located in this room is my main cable/satellite box. Now that I know that I am keeping this house (was considering selling), and have started to finish my basement, I have a dilemma.
Up until now, I have just run the cables from my satellite switch(es) just through my concrete block foundation, into my basement, and have just strung the RG6/U on hooks in my basement attached to the floor joists, as there are exposed. I then just drilled a small hole (large enough to accept the cable) through my floors into the different rooms where I wanted to be able to connect in to. Same as my Cat5 from my router to different rooms. Basically a big mess with cable hanging everwhere. The basement will be half finished over the next week or so.
Question is - what do I do with the cables now? Do I take them all down and re-route them along the outside of my house, then into each room? Is another possible way to run these, as I don't really want to bury them into my basement ceiling....What about the Cat5? I am pretty sure this cable isn't suitable for outdoor exposure.
