Noted network security guru Brian Krebs has blown the lid off of a very serious security issue with recent Foscam security cameras:
The IP cameras that you bought to secure your physical space suddenly turn into a vast cloud network designed to share your pictures and videos far and wide. The best part? It’s all plug-and-play, no configuration necessary!

Bad enough that one brand of security apparatus has such issues, but the following article discusses the broader implications of such manufacturer behaviour as the IoT (Internet of Things) increasingly expands into consumers' lives:

I read a similar article a few weeks ago about how many security cameras can easily hacked due to the use of default usernames and passwords. This type of issue extends to many other "smart" devices as well. The internet of things (IoT) turns out to be more like an internet of spies and security threats. Proceed with caution.
