Season 3 of Empire returns as the Lyons “continue to take on the world and sometimes each other”. This drama about a family dynasty set within the glamourous and sometimes dangerous world of hip-hop music presents stakes that are “higher than ever” as the battle continues for the “soul” of Empire.

Highlights of the season include an appearance by five-time Grammy-winner, Mariah Carey as mega-superstar Kitty, collaborating with Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) on a new song.

Described as “messy, vulnerable, dysfunctional, and full of love,” the award-winning cast returns for Season 3, with Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development) as Maura, a 70-year-old transgendered woman in the middle of her transition, along with Judith Light (Who’s the Boss), Gaby Hoffmann (Girls), Amy Landecker (Louie), and Jay Duplass (The Mindy Project).

The series is said to go beyond the headline-making storyline of the transgender experience, and represents the personal and interconnected journey of family.
