Sugar Mobile is Offering Nextplus Users a 50% Discount on their Starter Kit

This week, Sugar Mobile, the Canadian wireless service, announced plans to partner with California-based textplus, a free international texting and calling app, to offer Canadian Nextplus customers a discount on Sugar’s new starter kit.

Sugar Mobile is based in Markham, Ontario and currently provides lower-cost wireless service to customers.

The company does this by operating under its parent company, Ice Wireless, and using a combination of WiFi and cellular service via roaming agreements Ice Wireless has with major network providers, such as Rogers Communications Inc.

1200x630bfUnlike other popular talk and text apps like Skype, WhatsApp and Viber, Sugar customers can keep their existing phone number or pick a new number from a different area code in Canada.

The partnership will give Canadian Nextplus customers- who already number over 1million- the ability to roam beyond WiFi range for just $19 a month while receiving a 50% discount on Sugar’s starter kit.

“Nextplus is revolutionary because it offers the features of a cell phone company, but is delivered through an app,” said Scott Lahman, founder and CEO of parent company, textPlus Inc. “Partnering with Sugar Mobile simply sweetens the deal for our Canadian customers who can now roam outside of WiFi zones just as easily as our American customers.”

Sugar Mobile President Samer Bishay says many of the Nextplus Canadian users are young people ages 13 to 24 who connect their iPads, iPods, iPhones, Androids and other devices without being a customer of the Big Three wireless companies in Canada.
