Uber Test Drives its Self-Driving Car in Pittsburgh

Uber has said it is working to compete in the self-driving car game, and now they are finally revealing a bit of the evidence.

According to financialpost.com, the ride sharing company has posted a photo of a hybrid Ford Fusion driving around Pittsburgh, near Uber’s Advanced Technologies Center. The car is geared with sensors and cameras to gather mapping data, and information that can further Uber’s development of a self-driving car.

While self-driving cars sound dangerous to many, Uber, like other companies developing the technology, feels that the autonomous automobile can make our roads safer.

According to the guardian, com, Uber’s CEO, Travis Kalanick believes that self-driving cars could reduce the 30,000 deaths that take place on American roads each year “by using centrally controlled, algorithmic traffic management systems to prevent accidents and reduce congestion at peak times.”

It’s reported that the company also recently joined a coalition that includes Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Ford Motor Co. to advocate for safety regulations for self-driving cars, with the hopes to bring them to our roads as soon as possible.
