Love Canadian Content? Rogers Unveils World-Class Canadian Production Studio, Nine New Series and New Specialty Channel

Lovers of homegrown Canadian content can rejoice. Earlier this month, Rogers and VICE Media, the youth media brand and digital content studio announced the development of VICE Canada, a new production facility that is now in development in the heart of Toronto. The Vice Canada studio will be host to nine new Rogers-commissioned Canadian series to be shown here at home on a new 24-hour Canadian channel entitled VICELAND. The shows will also be exported around the world.

Rogers_Vice2Since the Rogers-VICE partnership was announced in October 2014, more than 100 writers, directors, editors, producers, and filmmakers have been hired to create sought-after Canadian content.

“We’re proud to be working with VICE to introduce a new voice in the media landscape through premium, original, cross-platform content that speaks directly to our millennial audience,” said Rick Brace, President, Rogers Media. “This Gen Y audience is not only looking for entertaining content, but something that reflects their values and views of the world. Through VICELAND and content from the new VICE Canada studio, we will fill this void, bringing viewers a unique programming experience unlike anything they’ve seen before.”

Viewers will be able to watch VICELAND content on mobile devices, computers and TV screens.

A full slate of prime-time shows will be showcased including Gaycation with Ian Daniel and Ellen Page (Freeheld), and Black Market with Michael K. Williams (The Wire).

The nine new VICELAND series being produced include Terror with VICE Media Co-Founder Suroosh Alvi, two hard-hitting documentary series entitled Cyberwar and RISE, various entertainment series including Abandonment Issues, Dead Set on Life, Payday, and Shroom Boom, and pop culture guides VICE Essentials Canada, VICE Guide to Comedy, and VICE Guide to Film.

New Daily VICE programs are currently available to all Canadians in both English and French on a nationwide free preview at the Daily VICE hub.

As announced in October 2014, VICE Canada properties form part of a $100 million joint venture between Rogers and VICE Media.

VICELAND programming will launch for viewers in winter of 2016.
