Wish You Could Open Your Door Without a Key? Telus Fibre Optics Brings High Tech Future Homes to Calgary

Dreaming of your future home? If you live in Calgary, it could soon be a smart one.

Telus, Canada’s fastest-growing national telecommunications company, is currently building infrastructure to allow fibre optic networks to transform our idea of what a home is.

TELUS-Future-Home3aTelus is doing this by putting their heads together and collaborating with known technology leaders such as Samsung, Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent, and envisioning a future where heating and lighting are controlled by a click on your phone or tablet, and doctor’s visits can happen without leaving the house by conferencing over an interactive touch table with high-definition video.

Wish to see it for yourself?

They thought you might. Telus is already deploying a fibre-optic network in the Calgary area in Hillhurst, Crescent Heights, and Capitol Hill (with more communities to come) and in order to encourage curiosity and enthusiasm for what lies ahead, they have created something called the Future Home, for the public to tour.

Telus' Future HomeThe Future Home is a 560-square-foot structure built to simulate a small condo, that offers a compelling glimpse of immersive technology. The mini home features facial recognition security systems, a smart kitchen and cooktops, a connected home office, connected lighting and thermostats, and ultra HD Optik TV.

Curious? The Future Home is located at TELUS Spark in Calgary. It’s open to the public for free tours on October 21 to 29, 2015, from 11am to 7 pm, daily.

“TELUS Fibre is the most advanced communications infrastructure available in the world today,” says Tony Geheran, EVP & President of Broadband Networks, TELUS. “We’re building the network of the future in a number of communities across Alberta. The Future Home offers a compelling glimpse into how a fibre optic network can transform our homes and enhance our lives.”

So, maybe the future really is now. For more information about TELUS Fibre and the Future Home, visit telus.com/calgary.
