Sony Canada Boosts Cyber-shot RX Line With Two New Premium Models

Sony continues to build out its acclaimed Cyber-shot RX series with the introduction of the RX100 II and RX1R models.

Boasting the signature sleek, stylish design as the existing RX100 model, the new RX100 II features a new 1-inch back-illuminated CMOS sensor, enhanced system expandability and adds WiFi convenience with NFC One-Touch compatibility. Sony notes that the new Exmor R 1.0-type sensor is the world’s largest back-illuminated CMOS sensor ever developed and is 40 percent more effective in dimly lit situations compared to the existing RX100 model. Add to that the exceptional F1.8 Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens and enthusiasts will be able to deliver exceptionally sharp, natural still images and Full HD video in any shooting condition.

Sony has not tampered with the body or design of the existing RX1 with the new special edition RX1R model, but has removed its optical low pass filter to increase resolution and detail while optimizing processing functions to maintain image sharpness without compromising lens/sensor performance.

The new pocket-sized RX1R keeps the weight and dimensions as the popular DSC-RX1, and is now compatible with TRILUMINOS Color technology, allowing for image playback on compatible BRAVIA televisions.

Masayuki Yao, Director of the Cyber-shot business at Sony Canada adds: “Sony continues to redefine the levels of performance for a pocket-sized, fixed lens camera. Now, with a total of four models in market in our Cyber-shot RX line — each with its own unique value proposition — consumers have more options than ever to experience the ultimate balance of size, imaging performance and imaging power.”

The new Cyber-shot RX100 II and RX1R models will both be available in mid-July for about $799 and $2,999, respectively at Sony retail stores and authorized dealers throughout Canada.
