Bell, Rogers Help Red Cross with Alberta Flooding Disaster

Both Bell and Rogers were among the numerous companies across the country to offer support to the Canadian Red Cross and local relief workers to help flood-ravaged communities in Southern Alberta.

More than $2.6 million for Alberta flood relief was raised in three days, said Red Cross officials.

Bell donated $100,000, while electronics retailer The Source will ship 8 full skids of batteries, in partnership with Energizer, to help the cause. All mobile phone users may also donate $5 by texting REDCROSS or ROUGE to 30333.

Rogers Communications has also chipped in with $100,000 and encourages cell phone customers who want to help, to donate $5 to the Canadian Red Cross by sending a free text message with the word ABHELP to 4664.

Donations may be made to the Red Cross by calling 1-800-418-1111 or on their website. Also, donations can be made to the Salvation Army Flood Relief effort by calling 1-800-725-2769. The Alberta government is also asking people to donate money as it is more flexible and easier to allocate to those who need it most.
