Rogers Named One of Canada’s Greenest Employers by Mediacorp

It’s quite fitting on Earth Day to be selected as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2013.

And Rogers takes this nod to environmental leadership in the workplace quite seriously.

“We are honoured to be recognized as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers,” said Nadir Mohamed, president and chief executive officer, Rogers Communications. “We take pride in actively engaging Rogers employees in environmentally responsible programs aimed at reducing our environmental footprint.”

In addition to Rogers Voluntary Environmental Steering Committee, the company has reduced paper consumption with much less printing, diverted electronic and IT waste from landfills, improved fuel-efficiency by adopting GPS technology and implemented energy efficiency programs across its operations.

To keep the environmental momentum going in 2013, Rogers plans to pilot a waste management program at select sites that will further reduce office waste through increasing its employees’ recycling efforts.

Additionally, the recently-acquired BLACKIRON Data, has partnered with Artex Environmental to provide eWaste collections at four of its data centres across the country. On April 23 and 24, customers and employees are invited to drop-off retired and obsolete electronic waste, from servers to cell phones and everything in between, at BLACKIRON’s Toronto DC3 (Markham), London, Ottawa and Edmonton facilities.

Rogers adds to the Earth Day celebratory announcements by introducing LTE network services to Airdrie, AB and Langley, B.C., as well as several Ontario communities such as Keswick, Hamilton, Grimsby, Orillia, Stratford, and Ottawa, including Kanata, Nepean, Gloucester, Stittsville and Cumberland.
