Rogers Acquires BLACKIRON Data from Primus to Build Cloud Hosting Business

Rogers has acquired BLACKIRON Data from Primus Telecommunications for $200 million.

The deal brings eight state-of-the art data centres across five major cites and a Web and cloud hosting specialist with more than 4,000 customers.

“The cloud continues to enable businesses to innovate and evolve in a dynamic market. This acquisition presents Rogers with a significant growth opportunity in the business-to-business market that aligns with our overall enterprise strategy,” said Terry Canning, SVP Rogers Business Solutions.

Canning adds: “BLACKIRON brings an experienced and skilled team of professionals to advance data centre and cloud business services and we are pleased to welcome BLACKIRON’s 132 employees to the Rogers team.”

BLACKIRON’s eight facilities are located in Toronto, Ottawa, London, Edmonton and Vancouver and encompass a 200 km reach of 80 percent of all Canadian businesses, notes Canning.

BLACKIRON Data generated overall revenue of US$33.7 million from Web hosting, managed services and data centre operations in 2012.
