RIM’s App Storefront Rebranded to BlackBerry World

Research in Motion (TSX:RIM / NASDAQ:RIMM)) plans to rename its app store to BlackBerry World as it prepares for the launch of the new BlackBerry 10 operating system on January 30th.

BlackBerry World will feature more than apps from now on, says RIM, and will also contain videos and music.

RIM posted on its Inside BlackBerry Blog: “With BlackBerry World, there are various ways to browse, download, buy, and manage apps using a BlackBerry smartphone, BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, or desktop or laptop computer,— inspiration is at your fingertips. And if you find something you love and want to tell the world, you can easily share it with your friends over BBM, Facebook and Twitter. Also, you can simply tap smartphones together and invite your friends to download it — just like that.”

RIM’s Blackberry World will soon be live on the web storefront before rolling out to the Playbook tablet and smartphones in the coming weeks.

Encouragingly, more than 15,000 apps for BlackBerry 10 were submitted by more than 1,000 people at RIM’s most recent developer events.
