Canadian Shipments of Samsung Galaxy S3 Smartphone Delayed

While sales of the most anticipated smartphone on the market continue to climb, the production of the units cannot keep up.

Samsung Canada and all of the big Canadian carriers were set to release the brand new Galaxy S3 on June 20th but the date has been moved up.

Samsung Canada tweeted on June 18th: “Due to unprecedented demand, our launch of GALAXY S III will happen June 27th, rather than June 20th. Thanks for your understanding.”

To be clear, this is not just another smartphone or a typical delay. The S3 features a 1.4 GHz quadcore processor paired with 2GB RAM and sports a 4.8-inch super AMOLED display, a stunning 8-megapixel (MP) camera with zero-lag shutter speed, 1080p video capture, a 1.9-inch front-facing camera plus a 16 GB onboard memory that is expandable. It runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

Evidently the global demand is more than 9 million carrier pre-orders to date with most carriers and retailers now offering customers the chance to register online for updates, and a few taking pre-orders.

The 16 GB Galaxy S3 is available for $159.95 with a three-year contract, or for $649.95, free of any carrier restrictions. TELUS, Bell, Rogers, WIND, Mobilicity, SaskTel, Videotron and Virgin Mobile will all be offering the smartphone.

Interestingly, Quebec-based Videotron was accepting pre-orders for the S3 for just $99.95 with a signed three-year contract. That, of course, is for a limited time.
