Beatles Yellow Submarine Hits Canadian Theatres on May 24th

The 1968 animated Beatles musical, Yellow Submarine has been digitally restored frame-by-frame and is ready for the big screen once again.

For one night only, Thursday, May 24th, Cineplex Entertainment’s Front Row Centre Events and EMI Music are rewarding generations of Beatles fans by showing the landmark animated feature throughout cinemas nationwide.

Pat Marshall, Vice President, Communications and Investor Relations, Cineplex Entertainment elaborates: “Yellow Submarine has been delicately restored, bringing back the rich and vibrant colours it was known for and the legendary music of The Beatles comes to life in 5.1 Dolby digital surround sound.”

The digitally restored Beatles’ classic will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on June 5th in North America in addition to the film’s repackaged song track album on CD.

Yellow Submarine, which made its theatrical debut in 1968, is based on a song by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and cleverly showcases several Beatles classics including Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, Eleanor Rigby, When I’m Sixty-Four and All You Need Is Love.

The 90-minute lighthearted jaunt is suitable for all audiences. The New York Times film critic, Renata Adler in 1968 wrote: “Yellow Submarine is a family movie in the truest sense—something for the little kids who watch the same sort of punning stories, infinitely less nonviolent and refined, on television; something for the older kids, whose musical contribution to the arts and longings for love and gentleness and color could hardly present a better case; something for parents, who can see the best of what being newly young is all about.”
