New app lets Rogers customers watch Live TV on their iPad while at home

Rogers Communications has released a new iPad application in Beta which enables its digital cable and high speed internet customers to stream live TV to their iPads while at home.

The Rogers Live TV app can be used by Rogers High Speed Internet and Digital Cable customers in Ontario with a My Rogers account and a 8300HD, 4250, 4642 or 8642 digital cable set top box.

Rogers Cable customers who use an alternative high speed provider such as Bell will be prohibited from using the Live TV app. High Speed Internet customers should also note that any data usage will be applied towards their bandwidth cap. The company says one hour of viewing consumes about 600 MB of data.

“Rogers Live TV app is a key component of our TV Anywhere vision.” said Rogers David Purdy.

Currently the Beta app provides access to 20 channels such as CBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, CityNews and other channels found on the digital basic tier.

Currently available in Beta from iTunes Canada, the Rogers Live TV app will officially launch in early 2012. A version for Android tablets is also in the works.
