MTS continues roll-out of its fibre optic network to in Manitoba

Winnipeg based MTS announced today that it will deploy its fibre-to-the-home network (FiON) in the communities of Neepawa, Minnedosa, Killarney and Carberry Manitoba in early 2012.

MTS currently offers FiON in Waverly West, SElkir, Dauphin, and Steinbach Manitoba.

MTS is currently in the process of spending $125 million over the next four years as part of an accelerated deployment of its FiON network in Manitoba.

By the end of 2015, MTS expects to have deployed fibre to about 120,000 homes (approximately 65% of the homes in Manitoba) in more than 20 communities in the provice.

FTTH connectivity is notable because it allows telecommunications providers to offer numerous and profitable digital home services such as high definition television, very high speed internet (potential future speeds of over 100 Mbps) alongside traditional landline phone service.

“FiON is one of the most advanced fibre optic network technologies in Canada and these communities will see major benefits from the industry-leading services it enables us to provide,” said Kelvin Shepherd, President, MTS.
