Funny Radio launching in London on New Year’s Day

Montreal based Astral Radio said today it will be launching a comedy radio station in London Ontario on New Year’s day.

Funny 1410 AM, which Astral says is Canada’s first all comedy radio, will feature comedy bits featuring the biggest names in stand up from Canada and around the world.

The radio station will be programmed by Orbyt Media, Astral’s content syndication group. Orbyt says the programming will be fast moving and topical with as many as 30 comedic bits an hour. It will be hosted by Stand Up and Improvisational comedians and is patterned after a comedy club approach. Material will feature comedy personalities like Sarah Silverman, Zack Galifianakis, Louis C.K. and Russell Peters. The legends of comedy will also be featured with classic bits from comedians like Robin Williams, Steve Martin, Jerry Seinfeld and Lily Tomlin, and many more.

Astral says the format is already proving popular in several US markets among adults 25-54 audience thanks to its unique format.

London, which is currently serviced by over 20 radio signals, should be an excellent proving ground for the format on commercial radio in this country. Presumably, if the format proves successful, Astral will roll it out to AM stations across the country.
