Boardwalk Empire returns this Sunday for second season

HBO’s Boardwalk Empire returns this Sunday September 25th for its second season.

From Terence Winter and Martin Scorsese, Boardwalk Empire returns to chronicle the life and times of Enoch “Nucky” Thompson. Set in 1921, a few months after the end of Season 1, the series picks up after Nucky and his lieutenants appear to have solidified their power by successfully rigging an election and getting a Nucky crony elected as Mayor.

Boardwalk Empire received widespread critical acclaim in its first season particularly for its visual style and historical accuracy, as well as for Buscemi’s lead performance. The series was nominated for 18 Emmy Awards (of which it won 8), including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

In the 12-episode second season Nucky finds his hold on Atlantic City weakened after a bloody Klu Kux Klan attack at Chalky White’s bootleg warehouse and state agents who arrest him for election fraud and ransack his office. Trouble continues when members of his own inner circle attempt to oust him altogether.

Season two of Boardwalk Empire begins Sunday, September 25 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Canada. It can also be seen in high definition.
