Winnipeg gets its first OTA DTV Channel

CKND-DT, an Over-the-Air (OTA) high definition digital version of CKND-TV in Winnipeg, went live on December 16th in the city.

The Global Television affiliate is operating on channel 40.1 with an average effective radiated power (ERP) of 14,900 watts.

A member of the Digital Home website who is in west Winnipeg reports in our Winnipeg Over the Air Reception results thread that channel 40.1 is mapping to 9.1 HD and 9.3 SD and that his signal strength is 95%.

The new digital television station was approved by the CRTC in a broadcast decision last August. On the upside, Winnipeggers will now be able to receive Global Television signals OTA in high definition, however, on the downside it means that cable and satellite subscribers in Winnipeg will now be subject to many more simulcasts on their HD channels.
