This Week on Blu-ray (May 18th)

Digital Home’s top pick on Blu-ray this week is “The Messenger”, a drama film starring Ben Foster as a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant who has returned home from Iraq and is assigned to the Army’s Casualty Notification service.

The film premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival where it was well received and currently holds a 91% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film also features Woody Harrelson as Fosters partner. For his part, Harrelson received Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor.

Another film to consider this week on Blu-ray is “Invictus,” a 2009 biographical drama film based on events in South Africa before and during the 1995 Rugby World Cup, hosted in that country following the dismantling of apartheid. Directed by Clint Eastwood, the film stars Morgan Freeman as South African President Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as François Pienaar, the captain of the Springboks, the South African rugby union team.
