Time spent viewing online video up 13% in U.S.

The amount of time Americans spent watching videos online continued to climb in December according to recent research from the Nielsen Company.

The research firm reports the average online viewer spent 193 minutes, or just over 3 hours, watching videos online during the month, up 13.2% over December 2008.

Nielsen says 137.4 million Americans (up 10.3% over December 2008) watched over 10.7 billion streams in December. That was an average of 78.1 streams per viewer.

YouTube was the top destination for watching videos with almost 106 million Americans watching over 6.4 billion Youtube videos during the month. That works out to more than 200 million videos served up daily. The second biggest provider of Video stream by total streams was Hulu with 634 million videos viewed.
