Star Trek on Blu-ray this week

star_trek_2009Digital Home’s top pick on Blu-ray this week is “Star Trek”, the eleventh film in the Star Trek franchise which features a new cast portraying the main characters of the original series.

The film follows James T. Kirk, now played by Chris Pine, and Spock (Zachary Quinto) before they unite aboard the USS Enterprise to combat Nero (Eric Bana), a Romulan from their future who threatens the United Federation of Planets.

Thanks to high critical praise and excellent word of mouth reviews, Star Trek has become the eighth-highest-grossing film of 2009 and the highest-grossing film in the Star Trek series.

Other notable releases this week include: “The Rolling Stones: Live at the Max”, released last week in the United States; “Brüno”, the most recent comedy film from Sacha Baron Cohen, best known for Borat; and the 10th Anniversary Edition of Fight Club.

fight_clubFight Club was considered one of the most unique, controversial and talked-about films of the of 1999. The film was adapted from the 1996 novel of the same name by Chuck Palahniuk and stars Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, and Helena Bonham Carter. Norton plays the unnamed protagonist, an “everyman” who is discontented with his white-collar job in American society. He forms a “fight club” with soap salesman Tyler Durden, played by Pitt, and becomes embroiled in a relationship with him and a dissolute woman, Marla Singer, played by Carter.

Gone with the Wind is out this week. The highest grossing film in the history of cinema. Much bigger release IMHO.

What is it with pepole obsesing with “Gone with the Wind”? How old is that movie? I own it twice once on DVD and once on VHS and have seen it only about a million times since I was born.

Star Trek on the other hand is brand new never before released and seen by few pepole, I would say a brand new movie release that no one owns beats out a 50 year old movie that anyone who is intrested in owns multiple times!
