Shaw launches broadband WiFi network trial
Shaw Communications today announced it has begun consumer trials of its broadband wireless network using WiFi technology.
The company says Shaw High Speed Internet customers can trial the service at a limited number of locations, including malls, restaurants and fitness facilities, in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton.
Fire log and Christmas music channels return to Shaw
Shaw announced today the return of the Shaw Fire Log, back for its 25th holiday season, along with other holiday programming for cable and satellite television customers.
In addition, Shaw has added Christmas music channels which are available on the Galaxie channels and online through the Galaxie Broadband Player.
Saturday Night Live arrives on Shaw VOD
American late-night television sketch comedy and variety show Saturday Night Live (SNL) is now available on Shaw Video-on-demand (VOD).
Shaw Cable becomes the first Canadian television provider to offer full seasons of Saturday Night Live commercial free on its VOD service.

Shaw announces WiFi network trial in Western Canada
At the beginning of September, Shaw Communications announced that it had cancelled its plans to build a wireless network in Western Canada. In its place the company would build a broadband wireless network using WiFi technologies.
Shaw today announced it will conduct a technical trial of the new network, called HotSpot 2.0, in conjunction with its technology supplier, Cisco Systems.
Operating Income at Shaw Communications climbs 15%
Shaw Communications Inc., the country’s largest cable television provider, has announced its financial results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ending August 31, 2011.
The company reported consolidated revenue of $1.18 billion during the final quarter of the year, up 26% over the same period in 2010. Revenues for the entire 2011 fiscal year were $4.74 billion, up 28% from 2010.
TSN Jets channels premieres tonight
TSN Jets, a new specialty channel dedicated to the Winnipeg Jets hockey team, premieres tonight when the Jets take on the Columbus Blue Jackets in front of a capacity crowd at the MTS Centre.
The pay channel will be available to almost half a million homes in the Winnipeg Jets broadcast region which includes Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, plus parts of Northwestern Ontario including Kenora, Dryden and Thunder Bay.
MTS and Shaw sign deals to carry TSN Jets Channel
Over the last several days, MTS and Shaw have announced a deal with TSN that will see the TSN Jets Channel air on MTS TV, Shaw Cable and Canada’s second largest direct-to-home satellite television service, Shaw Direct.
TSN Jets will broadcast more than 60 regional regular season and pre-season games each season to fans in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and parts of Northwestern Ontario.
