Shaw Direct adds Internet VOD to its offerings

Shaw Direct, Canada’s second largest direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television provider, today announced an Internet video on demand (VOD) service for its satellite television subscribers.

In addition to access to tv shows and pay per movies, Shaw Direct customers will also have access to 40 online commercial-free music channels from Galaxie, the Montreal based music service formerly owned by the CBC and now owned by Stingray Digital.

Newest Shaw Direct HD Receivers get a firmware update

Over the last week Shaw Direct has been rolling out new firmware – version 04.06 – for the company’s HDDSR 605 and HDPVR 630 direct-to-home satellite receivers.

Shaw says the new firmware leaves the user interface largely unchanged but includes numerous bug fixes which make for a smoother and problem free experience.

Shaw has over 1.2 million HD customers

In financial results released last week, Shaw Communications said it now has over 1.2 million customers capable of receiving high definition (HD) programming.

The number includes 790,000 HD capable customers at Shaw Cable and 415,000 HD customers at Shaw Direct, the company’s direct-to-home satellite broadcasting division.

Shaw Communications reports 1st Quarter results

Shaw Communications Inc., the country’s largest cable television provider, has announced its financial results for the first quarter of its fiscal year ending November 30, 2010.

The company reported revenue for the three month period was $1.08 billion, up 19% over the same period last year. The big increase in revenue was due primarily to increased cash flow from the new Shaw Media division.(formerly CanWest Global Communications).

Shaw Direct free previews for December

With so many channels to choose from nowadays, cable and satellite subscribers are often unaware that some television channels even exist and if they do know know, are unsure whether they wish to subscribe.

To entice its customers into subscribing to even more channels, Canada’s number two Direct-To-Home satellite television provider, Shaw Direct will be offering its customers free previews to nine different channels or package of channels in December and January.

Shaw Direct releases new HD Satellite receiver

After months of delay, Canada’s number two direct-to-home (DTH) satellite provider Shaw Direct has announced the release of its MPEG-4 capable HDDSR 605 high definition digital satellite receiver.

The new device, which Shaw customer service has been promising to its customers for over a year, will sell for $199 beginning today.

Sportsnet One rumoured to be coming to Shaw Direct

Digital Home has been informed that Shaw Direct, Canada’s number two Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite provider, has reached an agreement with Rogers Media regarding carriage of Sportsnet One

CBC/Radio Canada demands complete distribution on Satellite TV

In a statement issued today, CBC/Radio-Canada says that all Bell TV and Shaw Direct subscribers should have access to their local CBC or Radio-Canada television signal.

Bell TV currently carries nine of 14 CBC stations and eight of 13 Radio-Canada stations, while Shaw Direct carries only 10 of 14 CBC stations and six of 13 of Radio-Canada stations.
