CBC/Radio Canada demands complete distribution on Satellite TV
In a statement issued today, CBC/Radio-Canada says that all Bell TV and Shaw Direct subscribers should have access to their local CBC or Radio-Canada television signal.
Bell TV currently carries nine of 14 CBC stations and eight of 13 Radio-Canada stations, while Shaw Direct carries only 10 of 14 CBC stations and six of 13 of Radio-Canada stations.
Shaw Direct HDPVR 630 arrives in September
Canada’s number two Direct-to-home satellite television provider Shaw Direct announced today that its new dual tuner high definition PVR will arrive in stores on September 1st.
Features of the new Shaw Direct HDPVR 630 include: dual tuners; a 320GB hard drive; component video and HDMI outputs; Ethernet and eSata port; and MPEG-4 decoding.
Setanta Sports HD channel coming August 1st

Shaw Direct’s promised firmware upgrade will never happen
In November 2008, Star Choice, now called Shaw Direct, announced that it would be updating the firmware of its DVR530, DSR505, DSR317, and DSR207 satellite receivers in the spring of 2009.
At the time, Canada’s number two Direct-to-home satellite television provider promised firmware updates with new features such as an enhanced electronic program guide, improved information screens for shows and movies, interactive search, new features for the digital video recorder and more.
How to watch the World Cup finals in 3D
Telus, Shaw Direct and Rogers have all announced they will broadcast the final two games of the 2010 World Cup Soccer Championship in side-by-side 3D.
The 3D match for third place will air on Saturday, July 10 at 2:30 pm ET while the championship match airs on Sunday, July 11 at 2:30 pm ET.
Shaw Direct expanding capacity in late 2012
Shaw Direct, Canada’s number two direct-to-home (DTH) satellite broadcaster, announced this week that it has entered into agreements with Telesat to acquire capacity on a new satellite expected to be available in late 2012.
The company says the expanded capacity will increase Shaw Direct’s satellite television services by 30 percent through 16 new national transponders.
WHL playoffs continue on Shaw
The Western Hockey League has announced that the second round playoff series between the Calgary Hitmen and Medicine Hat Tigers will be televised live on Shaw Cable and Shaw Direct in Western Canada.
In addition to the Calgary Hitmen – Medicine Hat Tigers series, the Husky WHL Eastern Conference Semi-Final match-ups will also feature the Brandon Wheat Kings taking on the Saskatoon Blades.
Oasis HD added to Shaw Direct lineup
OASIS HD, a nature-themed channel airing programming on a wide variety of topics from animals to landscapes to outer space, is now available on Shaw Direct.
The high definition channel, which is also known for it’s high quality Smithsonian programming and Imax programming, is owned and operated by Toronto based High Fidelity HDTV.
