Food Network HD now on Shaw Direct
The Food Network HD, a high definition version of the Canada digital specialty channel, is now available on Shaw Direct (formerly Star Choice).
The station, which is a joint venture between Shaw Media and the Food Network in the U.S, will be on free preview to Shaw Direct through April 6th.
Shaw Communications revenues up 19% in recent quarter
Shaw Communications Inc., the country’s largest cable television provider, today announced its financial results for the first fiscal quarter ending November 30, 2011.
The company reported revenue for the three month period was $1.28 billion, up 19% over the same period last year. Operating income before amortization for the September to November time frame was $566 million, up 18% over the same period a year earlier.
Shaw Direct now offering NBA League Pass
Canada’s number two Direct to Home (DTH) satellite broadcaster today announced that it is now offering the NBA League Pass programming package which offers basketball fans up to 100 NBA games each month.
The package will cost current Shaw Direct subscribers an additional $5.06 per month for both high-definition (HD) and standard-definition (SD) channels.
Fire log and Christmas music channels return to Shaw
Shaw announced today the return of the Shaw Fire Log, back for its 25th holiday season, along with other holiday programming for cable and satellite television customers.
In addition, Shaw has added Christmas music channels which are available on the Galaxie channels and online through the Galaxie Broadband Player.

Operating Income at Shaw Communications climbs 15%
Shaw Communications Inc., the country’s largest cable television provider, has announced its financial results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ending August 31, 2011.
The company reported consolidated revenue of $1.18 billion during the final quarter of the year, up 26% over the same period in 2010. Revenues for the entire 2011 fiscal year were $4.74 billion, up 28% from 2010.
Anik F2 satellite back on the job
Just after 11pm EDT last night, Shaw Direct customers began informing Digital Home that they were once again receiving their high definition television signals meaning Telesat’s Anik F2 satellite is now back on the job.
The HD signals disappeared just after 6:30 AM EDT on Thursday when the satellite experienced a “technical anomaly” that resulted in loss of satellite services to its customers.
Update: Satellite malfunction leaves Shaw Direct customers without most HD channels
Beginning around 6:30 am Thursday morning, Shaw Direct customers began telling Digital Home that they were no longer able to receive numerous television channels, including most HD channels.
The source of the problem is a malfunctioning geostationary communications satellites launched by Telesat Canada called Anik F2
