Shaw Direct customers angry over lack of promised updates

In November 2008, Star Choice, now called Shaw Direct, announced that it would be updating the firmware of its DVR530, DSR505, DSR317, and DSR207 satellite receivers in the spring of 2009.

At the time, Canada’s number two Direct-to-home satellite television provider promised firmware updates with new features such as an enhanced electronic program guide, improved information screens for shows and movies, interactive search, new features for the digital video recorder and more.

Operating Income at Shaw rises 29% in latest quarter

Shaw Communications Inc., the country’s second largest cable television provider, has announced its financial results for the first quarter of its fiscal year ending November 30, 2009.

The company reported that, despite the worst economic recession in seventy years, service revenue ws $906 million, up 11% over the same period a year earlier while operating income was $475 million, up a whopping 29%.

History HD now available from Shaw Direct

History HD, a high definition specialty channel from CanWest Broadcasting which launched in October, is now available from Shaw Direct.

The direct-to-home satellite broadcaster, formerly known as Star Choice, said History HD is the 58th HD channel in its line-up.

Shaw income up 9% on record revenues

Shaw Communications Inc., the country’s second largest cable television provider, has announced its financial results for fiscal year ending August 31, 2009.

The company reported that, despite the worst economic recession in seventy years, revenue and operating income for the year climbed 9% in fiscal 2009. The company earned operating income of a whopping $1.54 billion on record revenues of $3.39 billion.

Shaw Direct customers fume over non-existent firmware updates

Now six to nine months after the firmware updates were promised, Shaw Direct customers are fuming over the company’s failure to deliver. Not only has Shaw Direct failed to deliver on enhancements, but they have failed to provide customers with firmware that delivers basic trouble free PVR functionality.
