Canwest launches MovieTime in HD
Canwest announced today that it will launch a high definition version of its English language specialty movie channel Movietime on Friday, March 12th.
At launch, MovieTime HD will only be available on Rogers digital cable in Ontario but the company hopes to launch with other cable and satellite television providers later in the spring.
New Whole home HD PVR now available from Rogers
Without any fanfare or public pronouncements, Rogers Cable this past week began selling the Cisco 8642 Whole Home high definition personal video recorder (HD-PVR) which should replace its aging 8300HD PVR.
Although roll-out plans for the new HD PVR have not been announced by Rogers, Digital Home believes the company will not formally announce the new set top box until it has cleared out its inventory of older PVRs.
Rogers Cable guide update fails to satisfy customers
Rogers Cable today rolled out a minor revision to its Quickstart marketing menu after complaints from digital cable customers in Ontario.
The update introduces a new menu option on Rogers set top boxes which allows users to change the order in which the QuickStart menu appears.
Rogers earned $4 billion in profits in 2009
Rogers Communications Inc. today announced its consolidated financial and operating results for the company’s final quarter of 2009.
For 2009, Rogers reported overall operating revenues rose 3% from 2008 to $11.34 billion while profits rose 6% to $4.01 billion.
Rogers to change Quickstart menu after customer complaints
Rogers Cable has informed Digital Home today that it plans to make changes to its new QuickStart Menu after a litany of complaints from subscribers.
The new Rogers menu, which forced users to pass through a Rogers marketing screen before they could get to their electronic program guide, met with near universal hatred by Digital Home readers since it was implemented in mid-January.
Rogers on Demand online fails to impress
In late November, at a posh hotel in downtown Toronto, Rogers Cable unveiled Rogers on Demand Online (RODO) which the company in hyperbolic fashion claimed was the “Next Big Thing in Television”
After it first launched, Rogers customers gave the service a resounding thumbs down with comments like “RODO is a BOMB-O!” and complaints about the lack of content and too many BlackBerry ads.

Rogers Cable rolling out new program guide in January
Rogers Cable this week began informing select Digital Cable customers in Ontario that its new Interactive Program Guide (IPG) called QuickStart will be rolled out next month.
The new IPG will be provides more options and features than the existing guide including the ability to display what’s on six different channels at once divided by genre.
