Nintendo cutting price of DSi and DSi XL Systems

Nintendo announced today it is dropping the price of its Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL video game systems in the United States.

Starting September 12th, the Nintendo DSi system will sell in the U.S. for $149.99, down from $169.99. The Nintendo DSi XL system will be $169.99, down from $189.99. Pricing for the Nintendo DS Lite model will remain at a suggested retail price of $129.99.

Classic Books turns your Nintendo DS into an eBook reader

Nintendo has announced it will be releasing its “100 Classic Books” program for the the Nintendo DS on June 13th.

The $20 software application turns your Nintendo DS into an eBook reader and includes 100 public domain works from authors such as William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Lewis Carroll and Mark Twain.

Sony’s PS3 increases global market share in Q1

Sony’s PlayStation 3 console increased its global market share of current generation consoles to 31% in the first quarter of 2010 according to a report from Strategy Analytics.

The research firm says console sales are typically weak in the first quarter but does provide a useful indicator to the relative performance of competing platforms.

Extra Large Nintendo DSi launches March 28th

The Nintendo DSi XL, a new extra large DSi with 4.2 inch screens, launches in Canada and the United States on March 28th.

The DSi XL is the fourth version of the Nintendo DS handheld gaming console and was first released in Japan last November.

The Pokémon juggernaut continues

Pokémon Heartgold and SoulSilver for the Nintendo DS system went on sale this past weekend in Canada and the United States.

The games, which are expected to be massive sellers among the under 12 set, are enhanced remakes of the 1999 video games Pokémon Gold and Silver with updated graphics and sound as well as intuitive new controls that use the Nintendo DS touch screen. The games were first released last September in Japan and sold over 2 million units within the first six weeks of their release. Reception for the games overseas has been positive.

Nintendo DSi XL to launch next month

Nintendo has announced they will launch the Nintendo DSi XL, a larger-sized version of their DSi handheld in North America on March 28th.

The primary benefit of the new DSi XL is a screen that measures 4.2 inches diagonally and has a surface area which Nintendo says is 93% larger than its predecessor.
