CRTC orders Bell, Telus and MTS to give consumers $310 million in rebates

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) on Tuesday order Bell Aliant, Bell Canada, MTS Allstream and Telus to rebate $310.8 million to its urban landline customers.

The rebate, payable to customers residing in urban areas, must be paid out in the next six months and will range from approximately $25 to $90 per subscriber. Details on how the funds will be sent out will be made available by the respective companies in coming days.

MTS accelerates Fibre to the Home deployment in Manitoba

Winnipeg based MTS has announced plans to spend $125 million over the next five years as part of an accelerated deployment of its fibre to the home (FTTH) network, named FiON, in Manitoba.

By the end of 2015, MTS expects to deploy fibre to about 120,000 homes in close to 20 Manitoba communities such as Steinbach, Thompson, The Pas and in areas of Winnipeg.

MTS continuing Fibre to the Home rollout in Selkirk

Winnipeg based MTS announced this week that it will deploy an advanced Fibre to the Home (FTTH) network in the City of Selkirk and an adjoining portion of the rural Municipalities of St. Andrews and St. Clements, north of Winnipeg.

The project is expected to begin later this year and will take several years to complete.

MTS adds new features to its Ultimate TV Service

MTS TV this week announced two new features for its Ultimate TV customers Winter Sports Picks, Galaxie Access along with two new channels.

The new channels are RIS Info Sports, a French language sports news channel, and GMA Pinoy TV, a 24-hour Filipino channel that offers popular shows from the Philippines.

MTS Mobility offering additional coverage in Alberta and BC

MTS announced today that it has extended CDMA wireless data coverage for customers roaming in Alberta and British Columbia.

The company says the enhanced coverage will provides its customers with 3G wireless data speed when visiting major centres like Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton.

MTS lays Fibre to the Home in Winnipeg neighbourhood

MTS said today that it has launched an advanced Fibre to the Home (FTTH) network in Waverly West, a new neighbourhood of some 500 homes in Winnipeg’s south-west quadrant.

FTTH connectivity is notable because it allows telecommunications providers to offer numerous services such as high definition television along with very fast internet speeds.

MTS to expand wireless coverage in Manitoba

MTS Allstream Inc. said today it would expand its CDMA wireless network to eight new rural Manitoba communities in 2010, including the port of Churchill in northern Manitoba.

The company says work on installing the sites is already under way in several locations and will cost approximately $2 million to complete.
