Public Mobile roaming begins March 14th
Wireless phone provider Public Mobile has announced roaming coverage for its customers in most major cities in Ontario and Quebec, as well as areas in Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Alberta and B.C. beginning March 14th.
Cogeco’s acquisition of eleven Quebec radio stations is completed
Corus Entertainment and Cogeco yesterday announced the sale of Corus’ Quebec radio stations to Cogeco Inc. for $80 million has closed.
The deal was approved by the CRTC in December after Cogeco agreed to establish a news agency called Cogeco Nouvelles, which will provide local stations with talk-radio content, and to divest itself of three stations to avoid concentration of ownership.
CTV in Montreal now broadcasting Over-the-Air in HD
This past Saturday at 2:00pm, CTV’s new Over-the-Air (OTA) transitional Digital Television transmitter in Montreal became operational.
CFCF-DT, channel 51 and virtual channel 12.1, is the high definition version of Montreal top rated English language television.
Bell Fibe TV launches in Toronto and Montréal
Bell today announced the launch of Bell Fibe TV, its Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service, in select Toronto and Montréal neighbourhoods. Bell says it plans to have the service available to almost five million Canadian households by the end of 2015.
Region surrounding Montreal gets new 579 Area Code
The Telecommunications Alliance has announced that, as of last Saturday, the new 579 area code is now available for new telephone numbers in the 450 area code in Québec.
The industry trade group says the increase in demand for new telephone numbers comes from the increased use of cell phones, wireless data services, the Internet and IP telephony among consumers and businesses alike.
Bell FibeTV pricing announced
Last month, at the Canadian Club in Toronto, George Cope President and CEO at Bell announced the official launch of Bell`s Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service, called FibeTV, would occur in Toronto and Montreal this summer.
Ahead of the official launch in coming weeks, Bell has now released its FibeTV line-up of channels along with hardware and programming package pricing.

In early February, Bell announced a number of new fibre initiatives including the deployment of Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) in Québec City and the introduction of Bell IPTV service in 2010.

Corus shuts down two Montreal AM radio stations
Corus Entertainment announced today that AM Info690 Montréal and AM940 Montreal’s Greatest Hits will cease operation on January 29 at 7 p.m.
The company said the two AM stations were unprofitable and simply not viable anymore.
