BCE Inc plans to acquire Astral Media in a $50-a-share cash-and-stock deal putting the price tag at $3.38 billion. The acquisition, announced on March 16th, will strengthen BCE’s telecommunications assets in Quebec and drastically improve its competitive position against other rivals, notably Quebecor. Angry Boys, a twelve part Australian television mockumentary series and the third season of Less Than Kind are two of the new shows which debut this month on HBO and HBO Canada.
Written by and starring Chris Lilley, Angry Boys explores the issues faced by young males in the 21st century – their influences, their pressures, their dreams and ambitions. Lilley plays multiple characters: S.mouse, an American rapper; Jen, a manipulative Japanese mother; Blake Oakfield, a champion surfer; Ruth “Gran” Sims, a guard at a juvenile detention facility; and her grandchildren, South Australian twins Daniel and Nathan Sims.

Beauty Day, a documentary portrait of St. Catharines, Ont., native Ralph Zavadil, a pre-Jackass amateur stuntman and comedian, marks the start of HBO Canada’s fall season which includes the return of popular HBO programming such as Call Me Fitz, Boardwalk Empire, Bored to Death and Hung.
The Astral owned station, which fills out its schedules with movies and Canadian produced specials, says that all of its HBO programming will premiere on the same day-and-date as south of the border.
