Operating Income at Shaw rises 29% in latest quarter

Shaw Communications Inc., the country’s second largest cable television provider, has announced its financial results for the first quarter of its fiscal year ending November 30, 2009.

The company reported that, despite the worst economic recession in seventy years, service revenue ws $906 million, up 11% over the same period a year earlier while operating income was $475 million, up a whopping 29%.

Revenues continue to climb at Cogeco

Cogeco, the nation’s fourth largest cable provider, today announced its financial results for the first quarter of its fiscal year which ended November 30, 2009.

Despite the severe recession Canadians find themselves in, Cogeco said overall revenue for the quarter increased by 6.4% from the same period a year earlier to $328 million while operating income grew 6.2% to $63.6 million.

Revenues fall 14% at Primus Canada

Primus Telecommunications Group Inc., the U.S. parent company of Primus Canada, today reported its third quarter 2009 financial results, the first since the company emerged from chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

In Canada, net revenue in the quarter decreased $9.4 million, or 14% from the same period a year earlier.

XM Canada reports $41.5 million loss

XM Canada this week reported its financial results for the fiscal year and fourth quarter ended August 31, 2009.

The firm reported that revenues for the fourth quarter and fiscal year were up 17% and 33% respectively over the same periods a year earlier, however, the company still had a net loss for the year of $41.5 million, down from $56.6 million a year earlier.

BCE income and earnings up in third quarter

Bell Canada Enterprises (BCE), Canada’s largest communications company, today reported financial results for the third quarter of 2009.

BCE, which includes Bell Canada, Bell Aliant and Telesat, reported a a modest 0.5% increase in operating revenues to $4.46 billion when compared to the same quarter of 2008, however, thanks to improved financial discipline and record net activations at Bell Wireless, operating income rose 17.2% to $782 million.

Telus reports third quarter results

Telus Corporation has reported its financial results and subscriber counts for the third quarter of 2009.

The company reported operating revenues for the quarter were down 1.6% to $2.41 billion while net income fell 2.1% to $280 million when compared to the same quarter in 2008.

Videotron continues to post strong subscriber growth

Videotron last week announced that, despite the economic downturn, the company saw growth in the number of subscribers for its major products: cable television, Internet access, cable telephone and wireless telephone.

Thanks to seventeen consecutive quarters of subscriber growth, Videotron is now Canada’s largest cable telephone provider, third largest cable television provider and the fifth largest internet service provider.

Cogeco revenues and income continue to climb

Cogeco, the nation’s fourth largest cable provider, today announced its financial results for the fourth quarter and 2009 fiscal year which ended August 31, 2009.

Despite the severe recession Canadians find themselves in, Cogeco said overall revenue for the fourth quarter increased by 8% from the same period a year earlier to $316.3 million while operating income grew a whopping 23.9% to $151.2 million.
