The result is a robbery, a murder and an intricate mystery.

This Week on Blu-ray (August 17th)

In a very quiet week for new releases, Digital Home’s top pick on Blu-ray this week is “The Good, the Bad, the Weird,” a 2008 South Korean comedy inspired by Sergio Leone’s The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Set in Japanese occupied Manchuria in the 1930’s, the film follows three bandits who get their hands on a treasure map but are pursued by the Imperial Japanese army who believe they have stolen a map for a new railway from them.

This Week on Blu-ray (August 10th)

Digital Home’s top pick on Blu-ray this week is “Crumb,” a 1994 special interest documentary about underground cartoonist Robert Crumb.

Crumb is a moving film about the experiences and characters of the Crumb family, particularly Robert Crumb’s brothers, Maxon and Charles, his wife and children

This Week on Blu-ray (August 3rd)

Digital Home’s top pick on Blu-ray this week is “The Ghost Writer,” a British 2010 political thriller film directed by Roman Polanski and starring Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan and Kim Catrall.

Adapted from the Robert Harris novel The Ghost, the movie follows a unamed Ghost Writer, played by Ewan McGregor who agrees to complete the memoirs of former British Prime Minister Adam Lang (Pierce Brosnan).

This Week on Blu-ray (July 20th)

In another slow week for new movie releases, Digital Home’s top pick on Blu-ray this week is “Mother,” a South Korean drama about a mother who desperately tries to prove her son’s innocence in the murder of a local high school girl.

The movie currently has a 96% approval rating among top critics on the Rotten Tomatoes website and was selected as South Korea’s official submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at this year’s Academy Awards.

Alien Anthology coming October 25th on Blu-ray

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced today it would be releasing Alien Anthology, a six disc Blu-ray set featuring all four Alien films, 60 hours of special features and 12,000 images, in North America on October 26th.

The Blu-ray edition will includes the bonus material from every home video release of the Alien saga including the 1991/1992 laserdisc releases, the 1999 “Legacy” release and 2003’s Alien Quadrilogy release.

Sales of Blu-ray players expected to top 62 million in 2011

Worldwide Blu-ray player shipments are expected to more than double between 2009 and the end of 2010 according to an ABI Research forecast released today.

The firm predicts strong growth again next year with total shipments in 2011 expected to top 62.5 million.

This Week on Blu-ray (July 13th)

In a week lacking much to recommend, Digital Home’s top pick on Blu-ray this week is “Greenberg,” a comedy-drama film written and directed by Noah Baumbach. The film stars Ben Stiller, Greta Gerwig, Rhys Ifans and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

The movie follows Roger Greenberg (Ben Stiller), a struggling 40-year-old single man who returns to his home town of Los Angeles in order to house sit for six weeks for his brother who is on an extended vacation.
