NFL Supporting BCE in CRTC Battle
The National Football League is on BCE Inc.’s side in its latest battle with the Canadian Radio and Television Commission. Latest numbers show Canada has over 25.5 million wireless customers
The number of wireless telephone subscribers in Canada topped 25.5 million at the end of September 2011 according to numbers compiled by industry trade group, the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA).
That number was up 6.2% from 24 million at the end of September 2010 and up just under 4% year to date.
Bell Mobility gets slap on the wrist for violating broadcast orders
In a broadcasting decision handed down today, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) says Bell Mobility has violated the regulator’s New Media Exemption broadcasting orders.
After a complaint by Telus Communications, the federal regulator investigated and found that Bell had given itself a significant competitive advantage by entering into exclusive agreements for the mobile rights to popular National Hockey League (NHL) and National Football League (NFL) content.
Complaints against Canadian wireless companies continue to climb
In its annual report released last week, Canada’s Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications Services (CCTS) is reporting an increase in telecom consumer complaints for the fourth straight year.
The commission handles a wide range of complaints about products and services offered in the telecommunications sector including: home telephone, wired and wireless internet access services, long distance telephone services wireless services, directory and operator services.
LG Optimus LTE coming to Bell Mobility later this month
>The LG Optimus LTE smartphone, which launched in South Korea last month, will be launched in Canada in coming weeks by Bell Mobility. It will be the second LTE smartphone offered by Bell following the HTC Raider.
Features of the device include LG’s Optimus LTE features a 4.5″ 720p HD display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, HSPA+ and 4G LTE connectivity, an 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front facing camera, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 1,830mAh battery, HDMI output, DLNA, WiFi, WiFi Direct, 2GB of internal storage, and a preloaded 8GB microSD card.
Bell expands it LTE Network and adds an LTE phone to its line-up
Bell Mobility this week announced the expansion of its next generation 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless network service into areas around Halifax Nova Scotia and Belleville Ontario.
Halifax and Belleville join areas of Toronto, Mississauga, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph with access to the new LTE network.
