Bell TV, formerly known as Bell ExpressVu, Dish Network Canada and ExpressVu Dish Network, is the division of Bell Canada that provides Direct-to-Home satellite television service across Canada.
The service, which launched on September 10, 1997, has over 1.8 million subscribers and competes with satellite service Shaw Direct, as well as various cable and communications companies across Canada, such as Rogers Communications, Eastlink, Shaw Communications, and Vidéotron.
Bell Satellite TV, formerly known as Bell ExpressVu, this week began an exchange program that will see the company replace every Bell TV MPEG-2 HD satellite receiver currently in use with upgraded MPEG 4-HD receivers.
Under the plan, Bell will replace an estimated 240,000 High Definition satellite television receivers in 193,000 homes across the company.
Bell TV this week began rolling out new firmware – version 185 – for the company’s popular 9242 dual tuner HD PVR which the company says fixes the problem of IR interference from other devices.
Select HD PVR owners began receiving the update automatically on Wednesday and all 9242 users should receive it by the end of this weekend.
According to rumours from the Canadian wireless blogosphere, Bell TV is expected to begin offering remote HD PVR access beginning February 12th.
If true, the new feature would allow owners of the Bell 9242 and 9241 HD PVR to schedule recordings and manage their PVRs library of shows remotely from their smartphone and possibly from their computer through a Bell remote PVR website.
After Bell TV upgraded the firmware on its 9242 HD PVR last PVR, Digital Home was bombarded with complaints from Bell customers who said their HD PVR was doing strange things such as randomly changing channels, the PVR recording shows on its own and much more.
Without fanfare, Bell TV this week began rolling out new firmware for the company’s popular 9242 dual tuner HD PVR which introduces internet connectivity, support for larger external hard drives and other minor bug fixes.
Firmware V184 began rolling out on Wednesday and should be available to all 9242 owners by the end of next week.
