I apologize if this is a newbie question but I can't seem to find out the asnwer. I've added my EHD (640 GB Comstar) to my 6141 and things went well for the first day. I too had the green pixelation to the screen but that went away when I rebooted the receiver.

The question I have is from time to time, I have to go through the whole process of "contacting Bell" by reformating the EHD, downloading the guide etc. Are people continuously having to do this as well? I've been leaving my EHD on all the time.

TOday, I couldn't activiate my PVR. After going through the set up steps, I would be back to step one.

If anyone has any info on this I'd appreciate it greatly!

THanks!

I have WD 500GB? and I'm wondering if I can rewind programs if I plug in EHD. It was one of the function I liked for HD PVR. Can I just record programs or I can rewind programs too?

You have full PVR capabilities. Record, pause, rewind, fast forward, etc.

I was in touch with Bell this morning, word is it is a software (compression issue) and that the tech dept. is on it. They hope to be issuing a new software version soon. Don't know why they don't go back to the previous software til they get it right.

Because the previous version doesn't support PVR capabilities. The green pixelation is an occasional, temporary inconvenience. Once the patch comes out, then all the people who got a hard drive will enjoy full PVR features, hopefully trouble-free.

You would have thought they would have tested this software upgrade over and over before actually releasing it. I am sure if they did they would have seen the problem and would not have released the update, no matter how good the pvr feature is.

Just installed a Lacie 500GB hd on a 6141 no problems. Had to call to activate, took 10 minutes. All functions working well but of course have the dreaded 'green' screen occasionally. That could get to be a nuisance.

Just a quick question about the new software for the 6100...

Once converted to a PVR, does the receiver have FULL PVR functions, where you can search for movies with certain actors. How about copying a series and the PVR being smart enough to record the actual show and not the time slot (in case there is a program change.) Thanks for all the information!

The 6100 is never going to be a PVR.

If you mean the 6141 that would appear to have the same functions as the 9242/9200, although as yet I have not hooked up a drive to one.

It's refused to recognize a 500GB Seagate drive in a cheap Acomdata enclosure from Staples... Anybody else try one of these enclosures with a positive result?

Post A Quiet EHD?

Are there any "QUIET" external hard drives out there?
I tried out a LaCie 750 EHD on my 6141 and it was too loud, especially when it needs to be running 24/7. I'm also concerned about it overheating some night at about 4 in the morning. Would like a quiet unit that's quaranteed not to overheat.

Hi Korak,

I have a 750GB LACIE and it is pretty quiet,

I can't even hear it.

Maybe yours is defect because mine is very silent.

I bought a Lacie 750GB also, can't even hear it. It has performed flawlessly so far and does not get even a little warm. I have never seen the dreaded green screen either. Maybe I am just lucky. Normally I would have opted for a WD external or some sort of DIY but I didn't want to have to deal with the CSR's at BellTV if anything were to go wrong. I can hear them now "well sir, the recommended EHD is the Lacie 750GB..." First impressions: I am impressed
