Yes i got one on christmas eve here in NS. 1 of 10 shipped to Atlantic Canada during that period. I am happy with it so far. I think shipments are coming into stores periodically. Patience is the only advice I can give you.

Maybe you could use your lack of delivery as a way to get out of actually receiving your Storm.

I don't want to start any wars here as I too wanted to get a Storm. I'm glad I didn't after reading a lot of the negative reviews from people and problems they are having with it. Have a look around over at crackberry.com forums to see what I'm talking about. Perhaps that's why they're shipping periodically?

I ended up with the Bold and really like it. It also has wifi built in which the current Storm does not. The next gen Storm coming to Rogers will have wifi I've heard. Not a big deal but something I noticed.

Well I can give you a mini review. As a bit of a background I am an IT Manager and run 4 email addresses on my Storm.

Pros
  • Excellent screen clarity
  • Quality build.
  • Easy to customize my home icons and secondary screen.
  • BB Messenger is one of the best app's. Free for BB to BB
  • After about 1 week of fairly heavy usage the keyboard feels much more natural to me. I have not achieved the same typing speed as I had on my 8830 (and probably will not) but I am content with it now.
  • Media playing is very nice actually on this unit. For the times I do not have my ipod I find the 8gb card sufficient for loading a few vids and songs to get me through those times of having to wait. Having a speaker built in is nice as well.
  • The camera is actually pretty nice and takes fair shots for those times that I want to grab a quick shot of something.
  • Fits in to my old 8830 holster so no need to buy new accessories
  • Call clarity is top notch moving to the storm. I have not noticed a difference form my 8830. This is on the Bell network here in NS
  • Battery life is fair. I always charge my devices at night so I cannot say for sure how good it is compared to others but I have had to problem running it for almost 24 hours of heavy usage.

Cons
  • The screen gets 'dirty' easily. Comes with a cleaning cloth but i do not want to have to carry it around with me. I guess this is a problem with most touch screen phones.
  • I find the landscape to portrait and back again to be a bit sluggish. It changes sometimes when I do not want it to which is a bit annoying.
  • As per my point above about the keyboard it does take some getting used to. I went in with an open mind about it and although it was tedious at first I am glad I stuck with it.
  • No themes available yet
  • Clicking the screen also took some getting used to. I found it was not responding the way I wanted it to. I read on another forum about putting 2-3 business cards on top of the battery (cut to fit) and that has made a world of difference.

My Storm is running .76 out of the box from Bell. I believe .86 is floating around but I have not put it on mine. They say a few of the bugs are fixed in that release like the screen orientation lag.

Overall I happy with my purchase. The storm is not for everyone and for a heavy BB user in the corporate world it would be an uphill battle to move to one in my opinion. With a little patience a medium user of email and browsing will adapt to the phone quite easily. If you buy one thinking you are getting an iPhone you will be disappointed. This is a different beast...better or worse I think is up to the user and how they customize it to their liking.

With Bell scheduled to roll out GSM by 2010, wouldn't the Storm (or any phone from Bell for that matter) have a quick obsolescence?

Default Cannot seem to find the BB Storm

Hi all,

I have been looking for this phone for the last week and a half, I cannot seem to find it anywhere! I am currently looking to upgrade my current bell phone, so going over to telus isnt really an option I want to try out just yet.

Does anyone know what Bell store still has this phone in stock? I live in the Greater Toronto Area by the way.

Also, great review above of the phone, it helped me get to this decision. thanks in advance.

To get my new STORM. . .

I called Bell directly (I'm in Moncton, NB) and the tech/ sales person I talked with said he'd give me a call when some became available. . . that was a Tues. . . he called on a Friday, I had the unit on Tuesday. . .

this was for a NEW activation (I'm giving my old phone to my 14yo who can't wait. . . . ) and I suspect that NEW activations and contracts are getting priority (?due to better commissions???). . . .

so try calling them directly. . .. *611. . . .

Default Commissions

According one Rogers dealer that I've used quite regularly, they make nothing on renewals, so they didn't care whether I renewed directly with Rogers or thru them. But Fido dealers seem quite eager to help with renewals, so it may be different for different carriers.

You can try this one:
http://fxlabs.oanda.com/cgi/fxlabs.pl?id=26

it is free. Does not list the storm as supported so beware.

As for the next one I might be inclined to find a website that you can add to the browser bookmarks and use that. Sometimes it is easier to do things like that then search for a free software application.
