What's the benefit of a US subscription? Seems like a lot of work for little or no gain.

The benefit is that XM US provides NavTraffic service which is not available from XM Canada (even though the traffic service covers some Canadian cities). Some cars sold in Canada come with nav systems that support traffic, but this requires NavTraffic service to work.

I have also heard that people can get lower price deals from XM US than Canada.

Otherwise, there doesn't seem to be any benefit.

I think you do need to get XM Canada to release. When I enter my radio ID into the XM US site to try to activate it I get:

•Sorry, the radio you have entered can only be activated via XM Canada. Please go to http://www.xmradio.ca in order to activate your Canadian radio.

I only listen to music on a select few stations. Sirius Canada doesn't offer theme packages like Sirius in the US. So getting the music package I can save about 33% ($10 music US vs $15 monthly Canada).

To each his own... but the benefit for us was greater selection of channels. With the Sirius / XM merger down south we were able to subscribe to the "best of XM" package add-on currently not available in Canada. The package gets you The Virus (Opie and Andy), PGA, (some) NBA, college sports, and most importantly (some) NHL... along with a few other extra channels (one being Oprah which I have 0 interest in)!

I think the big thing for me would be the option of purchasing the A La Carte music package for $ 6.99 a month.
For me; its all about the music!
Best Regards!

If I change from a Canadian Sirius sub to a Sirius Best of XM sub, will I lose CBC, Prime Time Sports(97)? What are the cons besides the price and internet accessibility?

No, you will not lose your Canadian programming. Not sure of other disadvantages other than price, internet, and potential issues with technical, warranty, and billing support if you need to call them...

we are going down to vermont for the weekend and i plan on buying the onyx xm radio, and i am still alittle bit confused as to how i can get a us sub, we do have a US address in florida(condo) should there be any conflicts even though i would activate it from canada by phone or online? payment would be CC.

has anyone activated a us sub with a canadian credit card recently? i'd prefer the us sub so that i could get college sports etc. my debate is either purchasing a us radio next time i'm down there or if i could let my canadian sub run out and have them release the radio to be reactivated with a us sub. which is the better/easier option?
thanks

Canadian credit card is no problem but a US address is required. The only catch would be if the credit card company get's fussy about the address. Maybe a prepaid credit card would work better.

I just re-upped with Sirius with a different credit card (still CDN card, though). Plugged in a US address for my cc billing address (which it isn't - lol) with no problem.

Does anyone know if a lifetime subscription is still available via the US and what it costs now? It seems all the info I can find on lifetime subs are a couple years old now.
