I am currently connected to Shaw (digital) in Victoria BC with a DCT2000. I recently bought an HDTV and I am keen to access HDTV content, and hopefully improve the quality of SD content -- I am amazed at the difference in PQ between analog channels, something that wasn't so obvious on my old TV. I was thinking of going satellite but now that Shaw is supporting the DCT 6200 I am wondering if I should just stick with cable.
If anyone (preferably in Victoria) has made the switch from Shaw digital to satellite I would be interested in your thoughts and comments, specifically did the PQ improve? Or if anyone has upgraded from a DCT2000/2500 to a DCT 5100/6200, did the PQ improve? |

I have been with *C, Rogers (upgraded cable system) and EV in the past year. EV is the best of the three, the most expensive for equipment though. I suggest that you get 2x24" dishes and a SW44 up front.

HD content is skimpy on Shaw. They recently dropped FOX widescreen (not HDTV but at least 480P widescreen) from channel 138, actually reducing the amount of widescreen programming available to subscribers.
I regret my purchase of a 5100 - I would go with Expressvu if I was making the choice again, and I still might sell the 5100 and switch. I don't know what Shaw's plans are though, so take my comments with a grain of salt. [edit] I am in Vancouver. I saw no difference in picture quality between the DCT2000 and DCT5100. Analog looks crappy in either case, digital cable looks OK, FOX widescreen used to look great, and HD looks fantastic. |
