Should I be looking at a 120 hz LCD or a plasma for gaming?

I just bought a new tv about a month ago and I was really looking at the 120hz lcds but after looking at a few different ones in the stores I decided I didn't really like them.
The picture looks very crisp and clear but I noticed that it gave the picture an almost plastic or fake look to it and I started to notice when watching a movie with alot of computer generated graphics it made it look almost cartoony if that makes any sense. I ended up buying a 50" plasma and I recently calibrated it and I am extremely happy with it. My PS3 looks awesome on it. |

It's the motion enhancement (ie. automotion plus from Samsung) that makes an lcd look like this, not the 120hz. This tech basically creates a fake frame and places it in between the original picture frames in order to make it look ultra smooth. You can turn this off and it all looks nice and proper again. The 120 hz is to further reduce motion blur.

Ahh I see.
My last tv was a 36" LG LCD 720P and I never noticed any kind of blurring. I looked at alot of different tv's and I couldn't see anything even when they were side by side to justify spending the extra money on a 120hz. Edit* Sorry I lied. I did notice a difference when there was football on but it was just hooked up to regular SD cable. |

I have a 120hz, and the Wii looks good (Wii is only 480p mind you). Games like Madden and Mario Kart look just fine.
I have 120hz on, and the motion enhancement off. It makes everything look too smooth.

I have a sony xbr 4. I leave the 120 mhz on and it looks phenomenal when I play games. I have all 3 game platforms. I don't see any motion blur when I play.

I have a Samsung 52" @ 60Hz & and Sharp 37" @ 60Hz and have never seen motion blur on my PS3 games, BluRay movies or any HD Sporting events. No doubt the rate is better but I don't think it makes a difference to the normal human's eyesite IMO. Maybe there are some other manufacture's sets that it would make difference but I doubt it on any of the big players like Sony, Samsung and Sharp.

When I was looking at tv's I honestly couldn't see enough difference to justify the extra money.
