OK, card received today(no charge), installed, activated and now my wife can watch Dr. Phil while she is in the kitchen. Not bad, took six days which is less than promised.

Watch you next bill! When they charge for a smartcard it appears on the monthly bill, it's not a bill they send with the smartcard.

I'm not trying to says you should be billed for it...as I stated previously it should be free!

why would Bell not offer to take a perfectly good 3100 in on trade for a new one? It could be refurbished with a new card and resold. Oh, well, I guess we are a throw away society, unfortuneatly.
actually bell does that. there is a program for recover the purchased units. bell buys back the 3100 which functions well+remote+card for 40.00.

OK, just got off the phone with a CSR who was quite easy to understand. She said I would receive a new smart card in 7 - 9 days and there was no charge associated with it. She said that because it was my receiver and that it was inactive and therefore not covered in the initial mailing of smart cards, I would be receiving the new one at no charge. Hmmmm, guess it depends on who you talk to and how well they understand the situation. Didn't have to play the "retention" card but it is worth having it in your back pocket if you don't get the results you want.
she did what she was supposed to do.
so , if the receiver was not activ when bell started to send the new s/c , once you reactivated the receiver the system will automatically update the info in your account and will send you a new card free of charge.

the charge of 100 cad applies only for stollen/destroyed/lost card and this is legally correct. once the card was sent to you and your address was ok after checking with the csr, the card belongs to you, you are its owner so you assume the risk if it dissappears.

I know Bell did this some time ago, can you confirm it is still a viable way to dispose of receivers.?

Can you tell us which models other than a 3100 are in the scheme.?

Can you supply a Bell web page that confirms what you say.?

yes it is still available. the list of receivers that bell buys back starts at 3100. 3500,3700, 4500, 5200 are not included in the list. this I know for sure, for the other models and the prices I have to verify first.

Very interesting, this might give me a chance to empty my closet of all the old receivers I have collected over the years.

Pinza look at my old post. I have posted a list with the amount Bell gives for each receiver a long time ago. Unfortunatly since i'm no longer working there I put the sheet in the recycling box

And 9200-9242 for 300-400$

I agree but at least we now know that Bell will take back receivers and actually pay for them.

I know of a Commercial client who updated over 250 x 3100's to 6141's in the last 2 months, he is NOT prepared or allowed to sell his receivers on E-Bay etc. I will let him know about this Buy Back.

Not sure if they buy back the receivers of commercial clients... I think buy back only applies to residential customer
